As one of the first major steps in creating its two newest student housing facilities, the University of California, Davis, (UC Davis) has selected its project teams to develop and design the West Village and Orchard Park apartment sites, which will add room for more than 2,700 students. University Student Living was selected as the lead developer from among six developers previously vetted through the UC Student Housing Initiative. Design firm Stantec was selected to provide lead architectural, interiors, buildings engineering and landscape architecture services for West Village. Stantec also will work with the lead designer for Orchard Park, providing mechanical, electrical and plumbing engineering, along with landscape architecture and site planning.

“This is an exciting project that will help UC Davis tremendously as it continues to move toward meeting its 2020 Initiative goals,” said Richey Madison, Stantec project director, West Coast Education. “UC Davis is undergoing its most ambitious growth in student housing in school history. To be part of a public-private partnership team helping to develop this new phase of on-campus housing is a great privilege,” added Sean Studzinski, Stantec National Project Director- Residence Life.

At West Village, UC Davis aims to provide at least an additional 1,875 beds in apartment-style housing, primarily for transfer and continuing graduate students.

Redevelopment of the Orchard Park site will provide at least 200 affordable, two-bedroom apartment units to serve UC Davis students with families and accommodation for more than 700 single graduate students. Overall, the new Orchard Park will serve more than 900 students (plus family members), four times the number previously accommodated.

“We are excited to see both projects move forward to provide more on-campus housing options for our student population,” said Emily Galindo, associate vice chancellor and executive director of Student Housing and Dining Services.

Preliminary designs for the project are expected to be finalized before the end of the year.
