SGA Celebrates 35 Years of Design What’s Next

Reflecting on Over Three Decades of Partnerships and a Legacy of Innovation

Boston and New York — SGA, a leader in architecture, interior design, planning, and virtual design and construction (VDC), proudly celebrates 35 years of practice — made possible by extraordinary clients, trusted consultants, and an exceptional team. Founded in 1991 on the belief that talented employees and strong collaboration lead to exceptional outcomes, SGA has grown into a trusted partner for some of the most complex and high-performing environments in the country, delivering tens of millions of square feet across a wide range of sectors.

That founding ethos continues to guide the firm today, propelling SGA’s continued growth. Over the past five years alone, the firm has billed more than $100.5 million in professional services, reflecting both the scale of its work and the depth of its client relationships. From multi-family and mixed-use developments to complex research, workplace, and academic environments, SGA has evolved in lockstep with its clients’ ambitions — while also delivering advanced manufacturing environments with an integrated, collaborative approach.

“This milestone reflects our longstanding history and the people and partnerships that have shaped our culture. These relationships, and the projects we’ve delivered together, define who we are today,” said Chief Executive Officer and Partner, Adam Spagnolo. “As we embark on our 35th year, we continue to strengthen our presence in corporate interiors, amenity environments, and the New York City market, while broadening our impact in multi-family housing and mission-critical infrastructure and advancing our work with academic institutions.”

Today, SGA operates throughout New York and Boston, serving clients in various markets across the country. The firm’s current active portfolio spans 50 million square feet, underscoring its continued momentum across sectors and geographies. Among its most significant projects, 50 and 60 Binney Street in Cambridge, Massachusetts, represents SGA’s largest to date, with more than 750,000 square feet of innovative office and research space. The firm is also recognized for a series of industry groundbreaking achievements, including Massachusetts’ first two Passive House–certified student residence halls, New England’s first mass timber office building, and Boston’s first LEED Zero Carbon research facility.

The firm continues to invest in innovation, sustainability, and advanced digital tools, reinforcing its position as a leader in the architecture and design industry. As it enters its next chapter, SGA is focused on expanding its reach in key growth markets and continuing to deliver thoughtful, high-performing environments — always with the same collaborative spirit that has defined the firm since its founding.
