(Cleveland, OH) – MicroPure Filtration introduces their Mash Filter Presses which produce savings in raw materials, energy, and labor of 20-40% compared to traditional lauter tuns and other filtration technologies. Rather than relying on gravity, rakes and circulation to remove the extract, mash filter presses squeeze the mash through a micron rated filter cloth to remove the wort and extract. This achieves up to 98+% extract and produces faster conversion with fine stripping mill (up to 20% flour). The design allows more mash to be placed into the system than traditional presses, and the squeeze feature shortens cycle times between loads, yielding more throughput. Squeezing the mash using membrane plates dramatically lowers the moisture content in the cake, so the waste load is smaller, lighter, and easier to handle. Since membrane presses have deeper chambers than a non-membrane filter press, they operate with fewer chambers per hectoliter. These flexible systems allow for multiple brew styles and provide a high degree of automation. MicroPure Filtration Mash Filter Presses are ideal for craft brewers of all types and sizes, juicers, or any facility extracting liquid from mashed or pulped materials.
How the process works
In the filling stage, the mash enters the press chambers through a feed pump. The filter cloths capture the mash grains while the wort continues through the system. After the feed cycle is complete, the compression stage begins, and the membranes start to expand to squeeze the remaining wort out of the grain bed. Air is pumped behind the membrane bladders to compress the mash grains inside the chambers, forcing out more wort. Once the compression stage is complete, the air is drained from the mash filter plate. Finally, in the discharge stage, each chamber is opened for cleaning, and the grain is discharged.
MicroPure Mash Filter Presses are available from 1 – to 200 hl, with screen openings from 0.5 um to 200 um. Maximum squeeze pressure is 100 psig, with maximum operating temperatures of 200°F (121°C). All MicroPure products are manufactured in Cleveland, OH and are available with industry leading lead-times.
Located in Cleveland, Ohio, MicroPure Filtration specializes in Air, Gas, Steam, Liquid, and Vent filters used in a wide variety of industries and applications. Their patented design features self-sealing filter media sandwiched between specially designed segments of stainless steel, clamped securely by a stainless-steel tension rod connecting the end segments to form the cartridge. Unlike conventional cartridges, the bidirectional MicroPure design provides equal support for the filter media in both directions so the flow can be reversed. The woven stainless steel filter media can be cleaned 150 times (typically 1 year) yielding significant savings over traditional disposable cartridges. MicroPure engineers are on hand to provide sizing assistance and a payback analysis based on project parameters if desired.
