These promotions recognize their significant contributions to project management for Matern’s K-12 and higher education clients. 

 

“RJ and Olivia had increased project management duties for the majority of 2025, and these promotions are well-deserved,” said Matern Professional Engineering HR Manager Stephen Pearson. “These promotions acknowledge their continued design and project leadership for the Education Division and the clients we serve.” 

 

Johnson has 20 years of experience in electrical systems design, including 11 years at Matern Professional Engineering. He is well-versed in the design of interior and exterior lighting, lightning protection, power generation and distribution, surge protection, and emergency power solutions.  

 

Byrd is a registered Engineer-in-Training with seven years of electrical engineering experience and is working towards obtaining her Professional Engineer license. She received her Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Alabama. She also has a background in the design of interior and exterior lighting, lightning protection, fire and intrusion alarm systems, life safety systems, power distribution, and emergency power generation. 

 

They are both knowledgeable in the design guidelines and standards for many Florida school districts and have worked on projects for Orange County Public Schools, Seminole County Public Schools, Polk County Public Schools, and St. Johns County School District, among others.  

 

In addition to design and project management, they support construction administration and help ensure projects meet the owner's standards and design intent.
