John Andersen, a 35-year concrete industry veteran, leads innovative materials
manufacturer into new era that will focus on durability and environmental sustainability
VANCOUVER, BC – In a move designed to bring smarter, more durable concrete to structures across North America, Kryton International is proud to announce that its longtime sales executive, John Andersen, has been promoted to Vice President of Sales.
With more than 35 years of success in the concrete industry, Andersen has built a reputation as a trusted technical expert and collaborative partner throughout Western Canada and the United States. His new role will strengthen Kryton’s reach into new markets within North America as the company continues its expansion internationally.
“John is a valuable member of the Kryton team,” said Kari Yuers, President of Kryton International. “His technical leadership, market insight, and unwavering focus on long-term performance continues to drive our growth and strengthen our relationships across the industry.”
The inventor of the first crystalline waterproofing admixture, Kryton manufactures durable, “smart” concrete solutions that more than double the lifespan of buildings and infrastructure around the world. Andersen has held several key positions with Kryton over the past 18 years, playing a pivotal role in the adoption of crystalline concrete technology while advancing sustainability and long-term durability goals across diverse markets.
Under Andersen’s guidance, multiple regions once considered “startup territories” have achieved sustained growth averaging 15 to 20 percent year over year by increasing awareness and understanding of crystalline waterproofing and durability solutions.
“Many of these markets had little familiarity with crystalline technology when we started,” said Andersen. “Education has always been central to my role — helping clients understand when these products make sense, how they perform, and how they contribute to structures designed to last 100 years or more.”
Today, Andersen supports a broad portfolio of projects, with roughly half serving large-scale industrial infrastructure projects, such as the U.S. Navy’s Dry Dock 5 in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. He notes that the smaller projects, like municipal sidewalks or housing developments, are equally important as such construction plans are being undertaken with an eye toward long-term durability, reduced maintenance costs, and a cleaner carbon footprint.
Andersen is a strong advocate for environmental stewardship within the engineering and construction communities. He has twice served on the board of directors for Concrete BC and remains active with Concrete Alberta and other technical committees across the region. He works closely with design teams seeking to reduce the carbon footprint of concrete while maintaining performance, durability, and lifecycle requirements.
“Architects and engineers are under increasing pressure to deliver environmentally responsible designs,” Andersen said. “We all have families. We all want a future. That means reducing embodied carbon where possible, while still delivering infrastructure that performs for generations.”
Kryton’s technologies, such as Krystol Internal Membrane (KIM) and Hard-Cem, are engineered to react with the concrete matrix and the surrounding environment, forming insoluble crystals that enhance durability and waterproofing over time. These “smart” materials are particularly effective in submerged structures, high-traffic facilities, and critical infrastructure such as dams, where downtime for repairs or rebuilds are not an option.
Kryton further supports long-term performance through its Krystol Assurance Program (KAP), a 10-year warranty offered in select markets. The program includes rigorous site diligence, hands-on support during construction, and post-construction assurance, providing owners with confidence that Kryton will stand behind its products if cracking or leakage occurs.
“Concrete is everywhere,” Andersen said. “If we get it right the first time, we reduce waste, extend service life, and create infrastructure that truly supports the future.”
