BOISE - Replacement of the 69-year-old Gold Fork River Bridge south of Donnelly, completed in late October, recently won a first-place award in the Structural Systems category from the ACEC (American Council of Engineering Companies) of Idaho in their Engineering Excellence Awards.

The project was designed and built in just six months, on time and under budget.

Concrete Placing Company and design firm Horrocks Engineers chose to build a temporary bridge to keep traffic moving smoothly through construction, a decision that benefited the traveling public.

The project will be profiled at the ACEC of Idaho luncheon April 10 in Boise.

The project included:
• Replacing the existing 137-foot-long bridge with a single span 151-foot-long structure
• Two 12-foot travel lanes with 10-foot shoulders
• Elevated bridge abutments and roadway slopes to withstand high flows
• Safe and modern guardrail in both directions
• New roadway approaches on each side of the bridge
