Atkins Presents Research Paper on Deep Draft Semisubmersibles at RPSEA Conference in Galveston, Texas
Atkins will be presenting at the Best of RPSEA 10 years of Research – Ultra-Deep Water and Onshore Technology Conference in Galveston, Texas on 30-31 August.

Arun Anthony, principal naval architect in Atkins’ Energy Americas business based in Houston, Texas, will be giving a presentation on VIM study for deep draft column stabilised floaters.

The presentation will cover the results of over two years of research on vortex induced motions (VIM) of deep draft semisubmersibles. The $2.8m research project included the CFD analysis and model testing of conventional semisubmersibles and Houston Offshore Engineering, an Atkins company’ s proprietary paired-column semisubmersible hull forms.

A model of Atkins’ dry tree semisubmersible, the paired-column semi, will also be on display at the event.

The RSPEA – Research Partnership to Secure Energy for America – plays a stewardship role in ensuring the focused research, development and deployment of safe and environmentally sensitive technology that can effectively deliver hydrocarbons from domestic resources to the citizens of the US. This event brings together technical experts from across the country to discuss a multitude of technologies, from those that are already commercialised to those still in development.
