Aquacycl’s Wastewater Treatment Technology Proves Operational Success for Beverage Manufacturers

Company’s onsite systems deliver ROI, lower emissions, and provides greater operational resilience

Escondido, CA — February 18, 2026 —  Aquacycl is gaining traction in the global beverage manufacturing industry for its differentiated approach to treating concentrated industrial wastewater. The company’s BETT® system uses electrochemically active bacteria to reliably treat complex wastewater streams, without dilution, reducing energy use and sludge generation compared to conventional biological treatment technologies.

In a recent Case Study, Aquacycl provided wastewater treatment solutions to a beverage producer at their production facility. The beverage producer struggled to manage high-Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) and high-Total Suspended Solids (TSS) slurries from its protein shake production. Prior to installation, the company relied on expensive off-site hauling services, while also facing mounting threats of production halts due to limited wastewater storage capacity. Aquacycl deployed a single 40-foot BETT® unit on-site to treat the concentrated wastewater as it was produced. Within the first five months of using the BETT system, the bottler successfully eliminated over half their monthly wastewater hauling costs, avoided potential production shutdowns, and achieved a full return on investment within only 5 months.

“What we’re seeing here is a shift in how manufacturers think about wastewater. Instead of paying to just remove waste, they’re using technology to treat and reduce costs as well as enable beneficial reuse opportunities” said Orianna Bretschger, CEO and founder of Aquacycl. “Facilities and beverage manufacturers can now treat concentrated wastewater more easily on-site, reduce emissions, avoid compliance risk, and realize rapid financial return on their investment. This approach of treating the concentrated wastes as they are generated also helps to reduce the overall load that is sent to existing treatment systems onsite, or to a city collection system. Ultimately, the Aquacycl approach adds treatment capacity without the need of significant infrastructure investment from the end-user or the city utility. This is a win-win-win for the producer, the city, and the municipal rate payers.”

Within the first 12 months of operation, the system processed over 1.3 million gallons of wastewater, removing up to 96% of BOD, 100% of TSS and 84% of ammonium.

Treating the concentrated wastewater on-site also delivered significant environmental benefits, mitigating 200 tons of CO₂e emissions by eliminating hauling, while requiring only 8,000 kWh per year to remove 62,700 kg COD through its low-energy process.
