The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials and the National Steel Bridge Alliance recently released a new set of guidelines for steel bridge fabrication.



The Steel Bridge Fabrication QC/QA Guidelines, G4.1, supersede existing S4.1 guidelines and provide information complementary to applicable welding codes and American Institute of Steel Construction or AISC standards.

They will be useful for developing a Fabricator Quality Control System and corresponding Quality System Manual, AASHTO and NSBA said.

Where AISC certification is not required, owners and fabricators should be familiar with applicable AISC requirements and incorporate similar provisions as appropriate, the organizations noted.
